Job Summary

Amergis is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Special Education Teacher to provide quality services to students with diverse learning needs. As a member of our team, you will play a vital role in creating a supportive and inclusive learning environment that fosters academic, social, and emotional growth.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and Implement Individualized Education Plans (IEPs): Collaborate with parents, department team members, and general education staff to create personalized plans that cater to the unique needs of each student.
  • Provide Instruction and Support: Design and deliver instruction that parallels the general education curriculum, while also providing individualized support to students with varying learning, mental, emotional, and physical disabilities.
  • Communicate with Parents and Colleagues: Maintain open and effective communication with parents, administrators, testing specialists, social workers, and professionals to ensure seamless collaboration and coordination of educational plans.
  • Monitor Progress and Evaluate Effectiveness: Regularly assess student progress, participate in review and revision of IEPs, and maintain accurate student records to ensure data-driven decision making.
  • Mentor and Support Teaching Assistants: Provide guidance and support to teaching assistants who work with students with disabilities, promoting a culture of collaboration and shared responsibility.
  • Prepare Students for Grade Transitions and Life Skills: Support students in preparing for grade transitions and developing essential life skills, such as independence, self-advocacy, and social skills.
Requirements
  • Education and Certification: Bachelor's degree from an accredited university and valid state teaching certificate as required by state, contract, or district regulations.
  • Experience and Endorsements: Minimum of one year experience in a teaching environment, with endorsements in Learning Behavior Specialist (LBS1) and/or State Teacher Certification in Standard Elementary, Secondary, or Special Teaching.
  • Skills and Abilities: Strong communication and interpersonal skills, ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders, and proficiency in computer software and technology.
