Job Summary:

The Nuclear Technologist plays a critical role in ensuring the safe and effective use of nuclear technologies in diagnostic procedures. This position requires a strong understanding of radiation safety protocols, nuclear imaging procedures, and regulatory compliance.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Patient Education and Support: Provide comprehensive education and emotional support to patients and their families throughout the diagnostic process.
  2. Nuclear Imaging Procedures: Administer radioactive doses, perform calculations, and execute imaging procedures to ensure accurate and safe results.
  3. Radiation Safety: Minimize radiation exposure to patients, staff, and the public by utilizing protective devices and adhering to Radiation Safety guidelines.
  4. Equipment Maintenance: Troubleshoot equipment malfunctions, resolve technical problems related to image quality, and manage data archiving to ensure optimal performance.
  5. Regulatory Compliance: Maintain compliance with Federal, State, and local regulations, ensuring a clean and safe work environment.
  6. Patient Data Collection: Collect and assess patient data, verify contraindications, and recognize signs and symptoms relevant to nuclear imaging.
  7. Specialized Studies: Use radioactive materials for specialized studies to assist physicians in diagnosing disease and injury.
  8. Radiation Monitoring: Measure radiation levels produced by various nuclear activities and monitor safe operation of reactors and equipment.
  9. Training and Guidance: Advise on radiation safety procedures and ensure protective measures are followed.
  10. Waste Management: Monitor the safe disposal, recycling, and storage of nuclear waste.
  11. Research and Development: Assist nuclear physicists, engineers, and other scientists in research and the development of new nuclear technologies.

Requirements:

  • Education and Certifications: New York State License (L.R.T.), American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) certification in Nuclear Technology (NT), BLS certification, and a graduate degree in Radiologic Technology.
  • Experience: Minimum of 1 year of Nuclear Technologist experience.
  • Skills: Expertise in nuclear imaging procedures and radiation safety protocols, ability to troubleshoot equipment issues, and strong understanding of Federal, State, and local regulations regarding radioactive materials and safety.

Work Schedule:

  • Hours Per Week: 37.50
  • Days Per Week: 5
  • Hours Per Day: 7.5
  • Schedule: Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM

Additional Requirements: ARRT Nuclear Technologist certification required.
