Registered Nurse II Position

We are seeking a highly skilled Registered Nurse II to join our Medical Services unit in the Travis County Juvenile Probation Department. As a Registered Nurse II, you will play a critical role in ensuring the health and well-being of our juvenile clients. This is a unique opportunity to make a difference in the lives of at-risk youth and contribute to the mission of the Travis County Juvenile Probation Department.
Responsibilities- Conduct intake and physical assessments of patients, including immediate medical attention and/or psychological needs.
- Assess patients to determine if they need to be referred to outside resources for more extensive medical assessment and treatment.
- Perform drug screens.
- Order and inventory medications daily. Dispense medications as prescribed on a daily basis.
- Respond to and assess all categories of patient emergent medical needs. Provide and/or arrange for treatment according to protocol and/or direction from authorized medical staff.
- Work in Dental and STD clinics.
- Consult with clinical and administrative staff about patient health care issues.
- Provide direct health care to patients, including wound care, medication administration, monitoring of vital signs and laboratory procedures.
- Coordinate with and assist other medical staff about all aspects of patient health care.
- Practice and train healthcare staff in safety, environmental and/or infection control methods.
- Provide health care instruction and counseling to residents.
- Document patient's condition and maintain patient medical files and records and enter into computer. Perform other administrative duties.
- Answer medical questions from staff, patient's relatives and others as appropriate.
- Assist in prioritizing patient needs, based on urgency and severity of medical condition.
- May assist patients with activities of daily living, including bathing and feeding.
- Graduation from an accredited Registered Nursing program AND one (1) year of Registered Nursing experience.
- Certification as a Juvenile Detention Officer or eligible for certification within six (6) months of date of hire, including successful completion of Cardio-pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certification, First Aid and Handle with Care (state approved physical restraint techniques).
- Valid Texas Driver's License.
