Job Summary:

ManTech International Corporation is seeking a highly skilled Hull Systems Engineer to join our team in the Washington, D.C. Navy Yard. As a Hull Systems Engineer, you will be responsible for providing technical support and assessing risk for technical decisions for Nimitz (CVN 68) and Ford (CVN 78) Class Ship Design Managers (SDMs) and Hull System Engineering Manager.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide engineering assessment, research, and problem resolution utilizing operational experience.
  • Provide responses to requests for technical assistance or adjudication received via letter, Departure from Specification (DFS), Liaison Action Request (LAR), Steam Plant Action Request (SPAR), Availability Work Package (AWP) Change Request.
  • Participate and coordinate technical approval letters for Ship Alteration (ShipAlts) and Technical Assessment Team (TAT) reviews for Ship Change Documents (SCDs).
  • Review Technical Feedback Reports (TFBRs) for Planned Maintenance System (PMS) changes requiring Designated Technical Representative (DTR) review.
  • Coordinate with Engineering Agents, Technical Authorities, TYCOM, PMS 312, PMS 378, SUPSHIP Newport News, Norfolk Naval Shipyard (NNSY), Puget Sound Naval Shipyard (PSNS), Ship Repair Facility (SRF), & other activities to resolve technical matters.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Naval Architecture or Marine Engineering from an accredited college or university.
  • 3+ years of experience with US Navy vessels structures, hull, and ship stability.
  • Understanding and experience of steel fabrications.
  • Good technical writing and communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Worked with or at a shipyard, Naval Surface/Undersea Warfare Center (NSWC/NUWC), Supervisor of Shipbuilding Command (SUPSHIP), Regional Maintenance Center (RMC), and/or Type Commander (TYCOM) supporting construction, operation, maintenance, modernization, and/or repair of shipboard electrical systems.
  • Experience working with technical authority.
  • Experience working with program managers in an engineering role.
Clearance Requirements:
  • Must possess an active or current Secret security clearance and U.S. Citizenship.
Physical Requirements:
  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50%.
  • The person in this position frequently communicates with co-workers, management and customers, which may involve delivering presentations.
  • Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
  • Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine and computer printer.
