About the Role:

This position is part of our Aircraft Carrier Design and Systems Engineering Directorate at Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA). As a Hull Systems Engineer, you will serve as a technical expert directly supporting the Nimitz (CVN68) and Ford (CVN78) Class Aircraft Carrier Ship Design Managers (SDMs) and Hull System Engineering Manager.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical support and assess risk for technical decisions for Nimitz (CVN 68) and Ford (CVN 78) Class Ship Design Managers (SDMs) and System Engineering Manager (SEM)
  • Provide engineering assessment, research, and problem resolution utilizing operational experience
  • Respond to requests for technical assistance or adjudication received via formal channels
  • Participate and coordinate technical approval letters for Ship Alteration (ShipAlts) and Technical Assessment Team (TAT) reviews for Ship Change Documents (SCDs)
  • Review Technical Feedback Reports (TFBRs) for Planned Maintenance System (PMS) changes requiring Designated Technical Representative (DTR) review
  • Coordinate with Engineering Agents, Technical Authorities, TYCOM, PMS 312, PMS 378, SUPSHIP Newport News, Norfolk Naval Shipyard (NNSY), Puget Sound Naval Shipyard (PSNS), Ship Repair Facility (SRF), and other activities to resolve technical matters

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Naval Architecture or Marine Engineering from an accredited college or university
  • 3+ years of experience with US Navy vessels structures, hull, and ship stability
  • Understanding and experience of steel fabrications
  • Good technical writing and communication skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with technical authority
  • Experience working with program managers in an engineering role

Clearance Requirements:

  • Must possess an active or current Secret security clearance and U.S. Citizenship

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50%
  • The person in this position frequently communicates with co-workers, management, and customers, which may involve delivering presentations
  • Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations
  • Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer
