Job Summary

The New York Public Library (NYPL) is seeking a skilled Library Maintenance Technician to join our Facilities team. As a key member of our maintenance team, you will be responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of our library systems and equipment, providing a clean, safe, and comfortable environment for our patrons and staff.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform routine maintenance and repairs on mechanical and electrical systems, including lighting, HVAC, and plumbing.
  • Conduct preventative maintenance tasks to prevent equipment failures and ensure optimal performance.
  • Assist in the installation and repair of building systems, including electrical, plumbing, and HVAC.
  • Perform tasks related to painting, carpentry, and other building trades as required.
  • Work safely and efficiently, adhering to all safety protocols and procedures.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent required.
  • 0-2 years of work experience in maintenance and repair, preferably in a building trade.
  • Knowledge and experience in mechanical and electrical systems, including plumbing and HVAC.
  • Ability to work at heights, lift up to 40 pounds, and perform physical tasks as required.
  • Valid driver's license and clear driving record.
  • Ability to pass a physical examination.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Graduation from a vocational or trade school with a certificate in one of the building trades.
  • Experience working in a library or similar environment.
