Job Summary

The Social Skills Teacher is responsible for creating a safe and supportive environment that fosters social learning and development in students. This role requires a strong understanding of social skills and the ability to teach and model these skills in a group setting.

Key Responsibilities
  • Foster a positive classroom environment that promotes student learning and expression.
  • Implement social skills lessons provided by Social Motion Skills to teach group social skills in the afterschool program.
  • Utilize behavioral strategies such as prompting, modeling, and video modeling during lessons.
  • Understand and apply the Behavior Skills Training model in social skills lessons.
  • Coach students' social interactions during weekly facilitated game time.
  • Manage student behavior in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct.
  • Document weekly attendance and communicate with administration regarding any attendance concerns.
  • Supervise students during emergencies and know emergency procedures.
  • Communicate with parents regarding student progress and confer with the Education Director regarding behavioral or disciplinary concerns.
  • Supervise students on monthly outings and facilitate social interaction among students.
  • Mentor teacher assistants, interns, and/or volunteers who work with students.
Professional Qualifications
  • Master's Degree in education, psychology, human development, or related fields (strongly preferred).
  • Valid Texas teaching certificate (Special Education preferred) or specialized certification such as BCBA, LSSP, or LCSW (preferred).
  • Minimum one year teaching experience (Special Education preferred) or counseling experience.
  • Demonstrate a basic knowledge of Applied Behavior Analysis and other evidence-based practices for students on the Autism Spectrum.
  • Adhere to a high level of professional and ethical standards.
Skills Qualifications
  • Knowledge of autism and similar social cognitive challenges.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently, use initiative, identify problems, and propose solutions.
