Position Overview

Applicants must be POST Academy graduates, currently employed, or qualifying former police officers.
The Fairfield Police Department is dedicated to enhancing the quality of life within the community it serves. The department prioritizes collaboration with community members to address and resolve issues. Police Officers are tasked with a diverse range of sworn duties aimed at safeguarding life and property, maintaining public order, and providing assistance to the community. Responsibilities include law enforcement, crime prevention, responding to various situations, apprehending law violators, conducting investigations, and fulfilling other related duties.

Salary:
$96,837/year (Excluding additional 6.5% raise)
Additional Compensation and Benefits:

Working Conditions:
Police Officers must understand all aspects of their role, which often involves extensive public interaction in high-stress situations. Officers may face physical and verbal confrontations, requiring significant self-control. The role may involve exposure to various weather conditions and allergens, necessitating flexibility in work hours, including nights and weekends.

Physical Demands:
Officers must be capable of various physical activities, including sitting, walking, running, and lifting. The role requires the ability to carry equipment weighing up to 30 pounds and to manage individuals or objects weighing at least 160 pounds. Vision and hearing acuity are essential, and incumbents must meet criteria mandated by the California Peace Officer Standards and Training Commission (POST).

Minimum Qualifications

Academy Graduate:

Experience:
No prior experience required, but law enforcement experience is preferred.

Education:
An Associate's degree or 60 semester units from an accredited institution is required at the time of appointment.
  • College credits earned during police academy training may count toward the 60 semester units requirement.
  • Candidates may receive credit for military service.
Licenses and/or Certificates:
  • Valid Class C California State Driver's License required.
  • Valid California POST Basic Police Academy Certificate required.
Other Requirements
  • Must be at least 21 years of age at the time of appointment.
  • Must be legally eligible to possess a firearm.
  • Must have no felony or serious misdemeanor convictions.
  • Must be legally eligible for employment in the United States.
Lateral Police Officer:

Experience:
Minimum of one year as a full-time paid Peace Officer with a P.O.S.T. approved California law enforcement agency required.

Education:
An Associate's degree or 60 semester units from an accredited institution is required.
  • Candidates may receive credit for prior law enforcement service.
Licenses and/or Certificates:
  • Valid Class C California State Driver's License required.
  • Valid California POST Basic Certificate required.
Selection Process:
Qualified applicants will be invited for further examination based on their application materials. The selection process may include an application screening, written and/or practical exam, oral interview, or a combination thereof. A thorough background investigation, polygraph, and pre-employment medical exam are required for final candidates.
