Rail Track Inspector

M&J Engineering is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Rail Track Inspector to join our team. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for ensuring the quality and safety of railway track infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities- Inspect railway construction work to ensure compliance with contract documents, including approved shop drawings.
- Prepare daily inspection reports and document track outages and protective support services.
- Perform field measurements and computations to validate item pay quantities.
- Collaborate with contractors, the railway, and clients to review work and assess progress to ensure contract schedule and deadlines are maintained.
- Monitor contractor performance to ensure work meets quality standards of contract, advise of substandard conformance of work, and assure remedial action is taken.
- Inspect construction activities to ensure compliance with applicable safety regulations.
- Document material deliveries, handling, and storage, and review material certificates to ensure conformance with contract documents and quality standards.
- Update project record drawings throughout the life of the project.
- Considerable knowledge of principles and practices utilized for the maintenance and construction of railway track infrastructure.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in railway maintenance of way construction or inspection work performed for a railway or rail transit agency.
- Knowledge and experience with the principles and practices of railway construction methods.
- Knowledge and understanding of Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) Track Safety Standards and Regulations applicable to railway track construction and maintenance.
- Ability to read and understand complex construction plans and specifications.
- Ability to write accurate and detailed daily inspection reports.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Experience using Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Inspection experience working in railway territory under the control of Metro-North Railroad (MNR), Amtrak, or Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA).
- Experience with railway force account inspection and reporting procedures.
- Experience with utilizing AASHTOWare and COMPASS for construction management and document control.
- Candidate must possess (or pass required testing to obtain) railway contractor employee safety training credentials applicable to territory.
- Candidate shall be required to possess and retain a valid motor vehicle operator's license and auto insurance.
- Candidate must have reliable transportation.
- Candidate shall have adequate physical ability and shall maintain such for proper continuation of job performance.
- Candidate must have the physical stamina to be able to walk 5+ miles a day.
Candidate must be able to perform work year-round in varied weather conditions, and during off-hours and weekends when necessary.
