About Us

East Harlem Scholars Academies operate as community-centered Pre-K to 12 public charter schools under the East Harlem Tutorial Program (EHTP). Established in 1958, EHTP has evolved from a children's reading initiative into a comprehensive after-school program and a network of charter schools dedicated to enhancing the college graduation rates in East Harlem. Our goal is to serve at least 25% of East Harlem students by 2025, with current enrollment at approximately 2200 students across our educational and after-school programs. In 2020, 99% of our graduates were accepted into college, and our current college scholars are on track to graduate at eight times the national average.

At EHTP, we strive to be a catalyst for change and contribute to the national dialogue on racial equity. Our commitment to anti-racism informs our approach to professional development, curriculum design, and organizational practices. We invite you to read our racial equity statement here.

Our work is grounded in racial equity, core values, and four guiding pursuits: the Revolutionary Pursuit of Love, the Radical Pursuit of Knowledge, the Responsive Pursuit of Healing, and the Relentless Pursuit of Results. These pursuits shape our strategic priorities, which include enhancing high-impact academic curricula, advancing technology use, embodying ethical and equitable practices, and optimizing teaching and learning environments.

As a History Educator at Scholars Academies, you will engage with students throughout the day. Collaborating closely with the instructional leadership team, you will internalize and, when necessary, develop curriculum; deliver high-quality instruction; monitor and assess student progress; foster a positive classroom culture; and engage in ongoing reflection and improvement. Additionally, you will serve as a class advisor, providing mentorship and support to students during their middle school journey.
