Job Title: Latex Chemist-Lab Manager

About the Role:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Latex Chemist-Lab Manager to join our team at Brightpath Associates LLC. As a key member of our research and development team, you will be responsible for formulating and developing new latex products, managing laboratory experiments, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to drive new product development project success.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and formulate new latex products, including liquid latex for mold making in adhesive applications, and perform laboratory experiments to optimize their properties.
  • Provide daily direction and communication to Quality Control Technicians, including hiring, firing, performance reviews, time off requests, timesheets, and training.
  • Design and perform laboratory experiments to develop specific chemistry systems, and work independently to arrive at goals stated by the VP of R&D.
  • Record and maintain all lab work in a lab notebook, and assist with QC tests as needed.
  • Interact with production personnel on pilot batches and production problems, and collaborate with sales personnel to understand existing product issues/uses and product development needs.
  • Interact with customers and assist with technical support questions and inquiries, and maintain a clean and organized laboratory work area.
  • Understand hazards of chemicals through company-provided training and reading MSDSs and labels, and wear proper personal protective equipment (e.g., gloves and safety glasses) and follow all safety rules.
  • Report safety concerns immediately to your supervisor, and work within cross-functional teams to enable new product development project success.
  • Assist with troubleshooting, application development, and commercialization, and perform other duties as assigned.

  • Standing and walking for full shift.
  • Occasionally lift full 5-gallon pails (40 lb).
  • Frequently lift 1-gallon pails (8 lb).
  • Ability to occasionally climb stairs.
  • Ability to operate specialized lab equipment.
  • Must wear job-specific Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for entirety of shift.
  • Talk, hear, and vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Required Education and Experience:

We are looking for a candidate with a Bachelor's degree in chemistry or higher, and 5-10 years of experience with latex formulation. 2-3 years of management experience is a plus, and basic computer skills are required. Ability to read, write, and speak in English is essential, and self-motivation is a must.
