The Matian Firm, APC is seeking a dedicated Legal Assistant to enhance our proficient legal team. This role is pivotal in upholding our esteemed reputation, as the Legal Assistant will contribute significantly to our operations through meticulous legal research, document preparation, and effective database management. Reporting directly to the Department Supervisor, you will collaborate with your colleagues to ensure the smooth progression of criminal cases within the department.
Key Responsibilities:
- Engage with clients and provide timely updates on case statuses.
- Efficiently manage the attorney's schedule, including meetings and court appearances.
- Prepare criminal cases for trial, which involves handling legal documents, data entry, and correspondence.
- Compile daily court calendars, obtain jury panels, and issue discovery to defense attorneys.
- Draft and manage subpoenas, including cancellations as necessary.
- Request comprehensive criminal history documentation, including national, state, and local records.
- Coordinate appointments for defense attorneys with deputy prosecutors and manage pretrial conferences.
- Assist victims with information regarding restitution, no contact orders, and court dates.
- Communicate effectively with law enforcement at various levels, as well as with victims and witnesses.
- Support departmental functions through various office activities, including mail processing and assisting at the front desk.
Qualifications:
- Experience in Criminal Defense is preferred but not mandatory.
- A professional background with transferable skills is essential.
- Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish is required.
- Prior experience in a paralegal role or similar legal field is advantageous.
- Familiarity with Case Management Software or similar computer applications is beneficial.
