The organization is now looking to bolster its technical leadership by appointing a Director of Software Development, who will report directly to the CTO as the business continues to scale through organic growth and an ambitious acquisition strategy.
Position Overview:
The selected candidate will be an experienced and innovative Director of Software Development, tasked with leading and transforming this essential IT function, which is crucial for the eCommerce operations. This role demands a strong leader with a profound technical background capable of engaging and influencing team members, alongside a proven track record in managing and guiding personnel. The Director will be responsible for shaping the vision and strategic direction, as well as executing efforts to unify eight distinct businesses and multiple web stores into a cohesive Technology Stack. Furthermore, this role will oversee significant transformational projects aimed at eliminating technical debt and transitioning from monolithic technology to a modern tech stack.
A successful candidate will exhibit exceptional organizational skills, a results-oriented mindset, resilience under pressure, and the ability to drive outcomes through independent action and influence across the organization.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with executive leadership and business presidents on strategic technical initiatives aligned with the three-year business strategy.
- Lead digital transformation efforts, transitioning from monolithic platforms to state-of-the-art systems.
- Design, develop, and implement a strategic roadmap for transitioning to new technical stacks, including migration from Perl to Oracle NetSuite and Adobe Commerce.
- Establish a Center of Excellence (COE) and a centralized software development team comprising 8-10 software developers, along with an outsourced QA function.
- Recruit, mentor, and develop team members, providing guidance and support for their professional growth while fostering a collaborative and high-performing team environment.
- Ensure the sustainability, maintenance, and enhancement of systems supporting eCommerce web stores and warehouse fulfillment operations.
- Manage project timelines, budgets, and resources to ensure successful implementation.
- Evaluate, enhance, and implement best practices for software development processes, methodologies, testing, and deployment.
- Track development team progress through metrics and drive continuous improvement.
- Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements.
- Collaborate closely with the Project Manager to communicate project status, risks, and opportunities to stakeholders.
- Engage with third-party vendors and partners to ensure successful project delivery.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field; a master's degree is preferred.
- Over 10 years of experience in a senior software development role, with a proven history of managing and leading development teams.
- Solid experience with eCommerce platforms is essential, particularly Oracle NetSuite and Adobe Commerce or similar ERP and eCommerce technologies.
- Experience in custom code development is advantageous (specific programming languages are not required, but Perl or Adobe experience is a plus).
- Outstanding leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Strong problem-solving capabilities and strategic thinking.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
