Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Supply Chain Director to lead our operations material management team at the University of Maryland Medical System. This is a critical role that requires a strong understanding of inventory management, supply replenishment, and distribution.

The ideal candidate will have a bachelor's degree in business administration, business management, or a related field, and at least five years of experience in healthcare materials management. A master's degree and CMRP or CPM certification are highly preferred.

The Supply Chain Director will be responsible for designing, implementing, and monitoring inventory management practices, as well as developing and maintaining policies and procedures related to inventory control and supply maintenance. This includes analyzing inventory practices, identifying deficiencies and inefficiencies, and making recommendations for improvement.

The successful candidate will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with patients, visitors, and all levels of staff. They will also have strong supervisory skills, with the ability to train, motivate, and monitor staff working under tight deadlines.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Plan, organize, and direct supply distribution activities to ensure accurate and efficient operations.
  2. Collaborate with the Senior Director on financial and budgetary items, including monitoring and analyzing department budget variances and meeting cost-saving effectiveness initiatives.
  3. Evaluate services and implement changes as necessary, identifying and recommending service improvements, quality enhancements, and maintaining necessary regulatory compliance.
  4. Install mechanisms to monitor departmental outputs, including quality assurance measures, staffing productivity measures, and unmet needs assessments.
  5. Act as the local responder for the automated product recall system, ensuring that product recalls are assigned to subordinates and documented in the system within the required response time.
  6. Perform inventory analysis and management to prevent low stock and overstock, establishing appropriate inventory metrics and adjusting them as necessary based on changes in utilization.
  7. Oversee the conduct of bi-annual physical inventories and ongoing cycle counts to ensure accuracy, and perform forensic causative research of issue and receipt transactions to determine the root cause of variances.
  8. Ensure team members perform monthly expiration date monitoring in the distribution center and across the entire UMMC organization.
  9. Coordinate management activities to ensure a match between customer needs and departmental capabilities, developing an active customer-focused orientation.
  10. Create, recommend, and update policies and procedures relative to inventory control, supply maintenance, and distribution procedures.
  11. Coordinate activities with UMMS Corporate Contracting to accomplish specific goals, including controlling inventory levels to maximize institutional return on investment.
  12. Ensure all managerial administrative functions are performed thoroughly and timely, including work scheduling and performance reviews.
