In this pivotal position, you will oversee the execution, management, and enhancement of health and safety initiatives within the organization. The EH&S Specialist will possess extensive knowledge of compliance programs and, where applicable, specialized areas such as Industrial Safety, Occupational Hygiene, Safety Engineering, and Risk Management.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensure timely reporting of essential EH&S information to regulatory bodies and stakeholders.
  • Prepare and submit necessary regulatory reports to maintain compliance with local and state regulations.
  • Conduct thorough investigations of incidents, ensuring effective identification and resolution of root causes.
  • Lead inquiries into significant adverse occurrences.
  • Monitor and evaluate EH&S performance metrics, initiating corrective actions as needed.
  • Deliver high-quality technical support and training in EH&S matters. Design and facilitate training sessions.
  • Perform regular inspections to ensure adherence to safety protocols and develop an internal audit framework to assess compliance.
  • Coordinate the execution of job safety analyses and risk assessments.
  • Establish site-specific EH&S policies, objectives, and performance indicators that align with the organization’s strategic goals.
  • Review project proposals to identify potential EH&S concerns and assist in their resolution.
  • Maintain comprehensive EH&S standard operating procedures that accurately reflect the management system.
  • Promote a robust safety culture and encourage employee participation in EH&S initiatives.
  • Coordinate business continuity and emergency response plans, conducting realistic scenario testing.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in safety, occupational health, engineering, or a related field is strongly preferred.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in health and safety within a research and development environment, particularly in pharmaceutical and medical device manufacturing.
  • Proficiency in Chemical safety, laboratory safety, machinery safety, and electrical and fire safety is essential.
  • ISO 14001 or 45001 Lead or Internal Auditor certification is advantageous.
  • Professional certifications such as CHMM, CIH, or CSP are preferred.
  • Experience in managing hazardous waste programs is beneficial.
  • Ability to interpret federal and state OSHA regulations in detail.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills are required.
  • A valid driver's license with a clean driving record is necessary.
