About the Role:

As a Patient Access Representative at Christus Health, you will play a vital role in ensuring a seamless and welcoming experience for patients and their families. Your primary responsibility will be to facilitate access to our facilities, establishing encounters for patients who meet our guidelines for hospital service. You will be responsible for accurate data entry, including demographic and financial information for each account, ensuring compliance with federal regulations, JCAHO, and Department of Health and Hospital compliance standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Meet the expectations of the applicable OneCHRISTUS Competencies: Leader of Self, Leader of Others, or Leader of Leaders.
  • Accurately input all required data elements for scheduling and registration, including patient demographic, financial information, guarantor information, and relevant notes associated with the encounter.
  • Verify insurance eligibility and obtain necessary authorizations for services rendered.
  • Calculate and collect the estimated patient portion based on benefits and contract reimbursement as well as prior balances.
  • Perform financial assessment for appropriate program assistance.
  • Communicate the purpose of and obtain patient/legal guardian signatures on all necessary hospital documents.
  • Represent the Patient Access department in a professional, courteous manner at all times.
  • Required to assist the hospital in the event of an internal or external disaster.
  • Support the flexible needs of the department to accommodate patient volume in all areas of the hospital. This may require assignment to another area of the department, and shift change.
  • Support the department in achieving established performance targets.
  • Complete required training as needed and as mandated.
  • Maintain the team discipline of following all elements of established standard processes.
  • Work with HPWT (High Performance Work Teams) to maintain an efficient, clean, and orderly workplace using 5S principles and practices once implemented in the work unit.
  • Coordinate, communicate, and assist in monitoring work flow and work tasks necessary to manage fluctuating volumes.
  • Provide feedback to the team to help identify educational needs, and mediation needs by reporting IPOs (issues, problems, and opportunities).
  • Demonstrate competence to perform assigned responsibilities in a manner that meets the population-specific and developmental needs of the members served by the department.
  • Appropriately adapt assigned assessment, treatment, and/or service methods to accommodate the unique physical, psychosocial, cultural, age-specific, and other developmental needs of each member served.
  • Take personal responsibility to ensure compliance with all policies, procedures, and standards as promulgated by state and federal agencies, the hospital, and other regulatory entities.
  • Perform all duties in a manner that protects the confidentiality of patients and does not solicit or disclose any confidential information unless it is necessary in the performance of assigned job duties.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent years of experience required.
  • 1 – 3 years of experience preferred.
