Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Occupational Therapist to join our team at the Jewish Community Center of Staten Island. As an Occupational Therapist, you will provide services to children ages 3-5 in a multidisciplinary team approach.

About the Role

You will work closely with our team to provide individualized therapy sessions, develop and implement treatment plans, and maintain accurate records. Your expertise will be invaluable in helping our young clients achieve their full potential.

Responsibilities
  • Evaluate children in your area of expertise for initial, requested, and annual evaluations as per CPSE.
  • Complete IEPs for children evaluated and develop a weekly therapy schedule to meet each child's IEP therapeutic mandates.
  • Provide and implement well-planned therapeutic activities that encompass a multitude of learning opportunities for children requiring services as recommended on the IEP.
  • Review therapeutic goals and objectives for children to ensure continuity in therapy activities.
  • Maintain accurate attendance records, files, and paperwork for each child on your caseload.
  • Participate in team meetings to make recommendations for development of IEPs and participate in team case conference meetings to review and update student intervention strategies.
  • Establish and maintain professional communication with parents, keeping them informed of their child's progress, activities, and needs.
  • Provide and ensure appropriate supervision of children at all times and provide and ensure appropriate, language, and positive methods of disciplinary intervention as defined by our staff policy.
  • Prepare and maintain a safe, clean, and well-organized learning environment and ensure that the Department of Health, Bureau of Day Care regulations is followed.
  • Assist in planning school-wide events and maintain and respect confidentiality of child, parent, staff, and other center issues.
  • Maintain a high standard of classroom intervention by training classroom staff in your area of expertise and attend weekly staff meetings, in-service training, and on- and off-site professional development workshops as determined by the school calendar.
  • Keep the Director informed of incidents relating to accidents, concerns about child's progress, or extraordinary circumstances and appropriately represent the Center in all forums.
  • Report to the Director or in their absence, the Supervising Teacher.
Requirements
  • New York State Education Department certification in the required area: Occupational Therapist - Occupational Therapy/COTA.
  • Fingerprint Clearance (Department of Investigation and Department of Education).
  • New York State Central Registry Clearance.
  • Annual Medical Clearance.
