Job Summary
The Director of the Bookstore at St. Lawrence University is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the university bookstore, including course materials, educational supplies, and a wide range of trade books, clothing, electronics, software, sundries, and gifts. This leadership role requires a strong focus on customer service, team management, and strategic partnerships with on-campus stakeholders, vendors, and contractors.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and motivate a team of employees to deliver exceptional customer service and achieve sales goals.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with on-campus stakeholders, vendors, and contractors to drive business growth and improve operational efficiency.
- Manage the bookstore's financial performance, including budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting.
- Stay up-to-date with industry trends, standards, and innovations to drive business growth and improve operational efficiency.
- Ensure compliance with security, sales, record-keeping, and other necessary procedures.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration or related field.
- At least five years of management/supervisory experience in a college bookstore or equivalent retail setting.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and motivate employees, foster positive change, and deliver favorable outcomes.
- Strong knowledge of merchandising, advertising, marketing, promotion, and display.
- Familiarity with generally accepted accounting principles and experience with financial reporting.
- Broad technology background, including experience working in a technology-driven work environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Detailed knowledge of the college textbook industry.
- Experience with digital course material inclusive access programs.
- Experience developing innovative programs and services.
Salary and Benefits
$68,000 - $71,000 per year, depending on experience and other factors permitted by law. Full-time (12 months) position with benefits.
