Patient Care Specialist - Psychiatric Resource

Job Summary:

Children's Health (Dallas) is seeking a Patient Care Specialist - Psychiatric Resource to join our team. As a key member of our interdisciplinary Psychiatry Consult team, you will utilize the nursing process to deliver comprehensive and developmentally appropriate care to high-risk behavioral patients and their families. You will act as a psychiatric resource to the bedside teams, providing clinical support, monitoring compliance with system policies, guidelines, and documentation, and maintaining a safe environment for patients with mental health needs in the acute care, ICU, and ED areas.

Responsibilities:
  • Utilize clinical judgment based on nursing skills acquired through formal and informal experiential knowledge and evidence-based guidelines to globally assess the patient's situation.
  • Support bedside staff in providing a safe environment for patients with high-risk behaviors by inspecting rooms, proactively identifying potential safety hazards, and removing at-risk items.
  • Deliver competent and skilled nursing care to patients and families according to their identified needs.
  • Provide content expertise and education to staff caring for high-risk patients and assist staff in finding available resources related to behavioral health patients.
  • Provide a just-in-time resource to bedside nursing, administrative supervisors, and physicians caring for high-risk behavioral patients.

  • Attend daily rounds with the Consult Psychiatry service and other services as needed to promote continuity of care and effective hand-off.
  • Review documentation and orders in EPIC and collaborate with the safety assistant and bedside RN to ensure that the patient's level of observation is appropriate, and documentation is accurate and complete.
  • Identify patient care concerns in real-time and collaborate and escalate as needed to promote resolution.
Requirements:
  • At least 2 years of job-related experience.
  • Four-year Bachelor's degree in Nursing.
  • Current license to practice professional nursing in the State of Texas.
  • Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers as required by CP 1.20 Life Support Course Requirements.
  • PACES certification within 6 months of hire.
  • Initial Pediatric Prevention and Management of Aggressive Behaviors (PPMAB) training must be renewed annually.
