Key Responsibilities
  • Design and Development:
    • Create detailed design concepts and specifications for packaging equipment and systems
    • Develop functional specifications for packaging lines, including conveyance, wrapping, bagging, cartoning, filling, bottling, case packing, and palletizing
    • Work with sanitary design concepts to ensure compliance with industry regulations
    • Create AutoCAD equipment layouts and interpret mechanical design requirements and customer specifications
    • Review vendor shop drawings and discipline coordination drawings
  • Engineering and Project Management:
    • Create packaging flow diagrams, material balance, packaging matrix, equipment specifications, OEE documents, speed matrix, and V-Curve
    • Develop budget estimates and create and follow up with equipment bid packages
    • Develop and maintain delivery and installation schedules
    • Understand size and placement of support equipment
    • Provide expertise in manufacturing and packaging design principles
    • Design systems, including conveyance, wrapping, bagging, cartoning, filling, bottling, case packing, and palletizing
    • Assist in process simulation
    • Develop project-specific procurement documents for packaging equipment
    • Assist with machine and process design
    • Prepare machine testing requirements and procedures
  • Site Work and Project Coordination:
    • Survey existing conditions
    • On-site construction project coordination to assist with the installation and commissioning of packaging equipment
    • Supervise equipment vendors and installation crews
    • Attend and present at client meetings
    • Lead factory acceptance testing at vendors' shops
    • Provide coaching and/or mentoring to a subordinate group when directed by supervisor
  • Requirements and Qualifications:
    • Bachelor's degree in mechanical, packaging, industrial, or manufacturing engineering
    • 4+ years of work experience in a related field
    • Must meet travel requirements - on-site construction project coordination and management with travel requirements between 30-50% of the year
    • Proficiency with MS Office, MS Project, and AutoCAD
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills
    • Intellectual curiosity and a positive, can-do, team-oriented attitude
    • Strong problem-solving, organizing, and time management skills
    • Must have experience in project definition, equipment design/layout, process design, equipment design, machine testing procedures, installation, and commissioning of equipment
    • Experience working for food and beverage manufacturing, food and beverage design firms, or professional engineering firms is a plus
    Physical Requirements
    • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer
    • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times
    Travel Requirement
    • Up to 50% travel required to visit project sites and other offices
