This position is accountable for the custodial upkeep of campus facilities. The working hours are from 2:00 PM to 11:00 PM.
MAJOR DUTIES
- Conduct thorough cleaning and sanitization of restrooms; replenish supplies as needed.
- Dust and wipe down furniture and fixtures.
- Sweep, mop, and vacuum floors; strip, clean, wax, and buff surfaces.
- Empty and sanitize waste receptacles.
- Clean classrooms and laboratories.
- Manage the loading and unloading of supplies; organize and stock storage areas.
- Address spills and manage broken glass incidents.
- Rearrange furniture as necessary.
- Assist in the preparation for special events.
- Report maintenance requirements to the supervisor.
- Perform other related tasks as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION
- Familiarity with the materials, equipment, and techniques used in custodial maintenance of public facilities.
- Understanding of the operation, maintenance, and repair of various custodial equipment.
- Proficiency in decision-making and problem-solving.
- Effective communication skills.
SUPERVISORY CONTROLS
The Custodial Services Manager provides general instructions for work assignments. The supervisor conducts spot checks of completed tasks to ensure adherence to guidelines and quality standards.
GUIDELINES
Guidelines include university policies and procedures along with supervisory directives, which are clear and specific.
COMPLEXITY/SCOPE OF WORK
The role involves a variety of custodial tasks, contributing to the complexity of the position. The primary objective is to maintain a safe and well-kept environment within university buildings.
CONTACTS
Interactions typically occur with co-workers, university staff, faculty, students, and the general public, primarily for information exchange, problem resolution, or service provision.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT
The job requires a mix of sitting, standing, stooping, walking, bending, and crouching. Employees frequently lift light to moderately heavy objects, climb ladders, and utilize tools or equipment that require dexterity. Work is performed in various university settings, including outdoors, and may involve exposure to noise, dust, dirt, and chemicals. Protective equipment such as masks, goggles, and gloves may be necessary.
SUPERVISORY AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY
No supervisory responsibilities.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Ability to read, write, and perform basic math calculations.
- Relevant experience that provides a foundational understanding of the key responsibilities, typically gained through an apprenticeship or similar role lasting one to two years.
- Possession of or ability to obtain a valid driver's license issued by the State of Oklahoma for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
