The Regional Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) Specialist plays a critical role in ensuring the implementation and support of EHS programs for Sterigenics locations.

This position provides direct support and training to designated ethylene oxide (EO) sterilization facilities to ensure compliance with federal, state, and Company EHS requirements.

Reporting Structure

The Regional EHS Specialist will report to the Manager of EHS.

Major Responsibilities

As Regional EHS Specialist, the major areas of responsibility include:

  • Environmental Support
    • Ensure compliance with environmental (air, waste, water) requirements for facility permits.
    • Provide ongoing support and training for compliance with current environmental requirements.
    • Coordinate and support compliance testing for emission sources.
    • Work closely with plant operations, engineering group, and staff on implementation of new equipment or modifications.
  • Health and Safety Support
    • Support ongoing implementation of the EHS procedures and policies.
    • Provide training and safety briefings for required EHS training topics.
    • Monitor the EO industrial hygiene testing results and follow-up, including assistance with action plans.
    • Assist site safety committees as needed to improve the safety awareness.
    • Support implementation of Process Safety Management and Risk Management Programs.
    • Assist in Worker Compensation claim management.
    • Conduct incident investigations and corrective/preventative actions for all incidents.
    • Assist the facility in incident tracking and trend evaluations.
    • Assist the Site Personnel in EHS assessments and inspections.
    • Participate in and conduct periodic inspections and lead EHS Corporate Audits for all facilities.
    • Follow up on all items with appropriate management.

Requirements

The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's Degree in a technical discipline and 1 to 5 years of Environmental, Health and Safety experience, preferably in the medical device or pharmaceutical or chemical industries.

Knowledge of Federal, state, and local EHS related regulations is required. Computer proficiency, Microsoft Office preferred. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Well organized, ability to manage multiple locations and projects.

Travel Requirements

Approximate overnight travel required: 30%
