REQUIRED EXPERIENCE
  • A minimum of three years in government, human services, or medical collections.
  • Proven experience in a leadership capacity, acting as a subject matter expert in collections.
  • Background in developing processes aimed at enhancing workflow, internal controls, and cost efficiency.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a diverse team, fostering an inclusive and respectful work culture.

WORK SCHEDULE

Standard hours are from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Work schedules and locations may be adjusted based on departmental needs.

COMPENSATION

The anticipated hiring rate is $43.30 per hour.

JOB SUMMARY

The Senior Collections Specialist leads the development and coordination of countywide collections strategies, managing complex cases, preparing financial reports, and ensuring the collection of debts owed to the County.


EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: An Associate's Degree in accounting, business, administration, public administration, or a related field, along with four years of collections experience, including at least one year in County collections, or equivalent experience.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

As the lead collections agent, responsibilities include:

  • Reviewing databases for outstanding debts and determining appropriate collection actions.
  • Initiating contact with debtors to negotiate repayment agreements.
  • Acting as a liaison between County departments and debtors to resolve discrepancies.
  • Preparing and dispatching correspondence to individuals unreachable by phone.
  • Managing emotionally charged cases with sensitivity and professionalism.
  • Maintaining accurate records of collections activities and coordinating with various agencies.

Additionally, the role involves:

  • Evaluating unpaid accounts and initiating legal actions as necessary.
  • Developing and revising collections policies to ensure compliance with regulations.
  • Leading the Collections Unit, assigning tasks, and overseeing compliance with laws.
  • Preparing statistical reports on collections performance and liaising with external agencies.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The role is primarily sedentary, performed in an office setting. Occasional lifting of up to 25 pounds may be required. Frequent interruptions and pressure from deadlines are part of the work environment. Reliable transportation is necessary for business-related travel.
