As a Staff Software Engineer at GEICO, you will play a crucial role in driving our insurance business transformation by building high-performance, low-maintenance databases with PostgreSQL or Cassandra.

Role Overview

This position involves working closely with other engineers to innovate and build new systems, improve and enhance existing ones, and identify opportunities to apply knowledge to solve critical problems. You will be instrumental in the strategy and execution of a technical roadmap that increases the velocity of delivering products and unlocks new engineering capabilities.

  • The ideal candidate has deep technical expertise in databases, specifically PostgreSQL or Cassandra.
  • Experience with modern programming languages is required.

About You:

  • You have a strong background in software development, preferably with 10+ years of experience in open-source database systems (PostgreSQL/Cassandra or similar).
  • A minimum of 8 years of experience in architecture and design is necessary.
  • Familiarity with cloud services like AWS, GCP, Azure, or another cloud service is also required.
Key Responsibilities:
  1. Collaborate with product managers, team members, customers, and other engineering teams to solve complex problems.
  2. Develop and execute technical software development strategies in PostgreSQL or Cassandra.
  3. Accountable for the quality, usability, and performance of solutions.
  4. Mentor and coach existing engineers.
  5. Influence and educate leadership at all levels.

The estimated annual salary range for this position is $115,000.00 - $230,000.00. Benefits may vary by location and are subject to change.
