Externship Overview
East El Paso Animal Hospital is delighted to offer veterinary students a valuable clinical experience through our externship program. This hands-on opportunity allows you to apply your knowledge in a real-world setting, working alongside our experienced team of veterinarians and support staff.
Eligibility Requirements
- Must be a current veterinary student at an AVMA-accredited veterinary school
- Priority scheduling is given to students in their clinical years on official externship blocks for school credit
- Must provide proof of professional liability insurance
Externship Experience
During your externship, you will actively participate in cases, furthering your development towards becoming a veterinarian. You will be supervised by an experienced veterinarian and skilled support staff, who will serve as your mentors throughout your experience. You can expect to be included in surgical cases, dental procedures, emergencies, sick patient workups, and routine medical appointments.
What to Expect
We encourage active participation from externs, introducing them to our clients and making them part of our team. You will discuss cases with your supervising veterinarian, verifying your exam findings and plans before moving forward with the case. This dynamic creates an ideal environment for you to grow in your confidence and skill with managing both routine and complex cases.
Species Treated and Services Offered
We treat dogs and cats, offering a range of services including ultrasound, endoscopy, soft tissue surgery, orthopedic surgery, dentistry, and wellness/preventative care.
Our Team
Our large team of doctors and highly skilled support staff have a variety of interests, including ultrasound, dentistry, and surgery. We even offer orthopedic surgery such as FHO, fracture repair, and surgery for CCL ruptures.
