Position Overview

  • Role Summary
    • This position entails delivering medical care under the supervision of a physician, which includes performing assessments and prescribing medications through evaluations and treatments of hospitalized patients. Responsibilities are carried out in alignment with the established protocols and standards set forth by Maine Medical Center, the State of Maine, and the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
  • Essential Qualifications and Skills
    • Education: Bachelor's degree with successful completion of an accredited physician assistant program.
    • Licensure/Certifications: Active Physician Assistant/Acute Care Nurse Practitioner license from the State of Maine or eligibility for licensure. NCCPA/ACNP certification is required. Current BLS certification is mandatory.
    • Experience: Not applicable.
    • Proficient understanding of the medical model and the collaborative roles of physicians and physician assistants. Familiarity with human anatomy, pharmacology, pathophysiology, clinical medicine, and physical examination techniques.
    • Knowledge of appropriate procedures and techniques for office-based interventions.
    • Competence in patient assessment methodologies, including gathering medical histories, conducting physical examinations, evaluating health conditions, and ensuring adherence to treatment plans.
    • Ability to diagnose and manage medical conditions and formulate care strategies.
    • Proficient in accurately assessing patient issues in person or via telecommunication and providing suitable recommendations, interventions, or referrals.
    • Capacity to make informed decisions within the scope of PA/ACNP practice.
    • Ability to work collaboratively with physicians on patient cases.
    • Exceptional communication and interpersonal abilities.
    • Strong proficiency in computer applications.
    • Commitment to maintaining patient confidentiality.
