The Trauma Care Professional will provide critical care to patients in urgent or emergent conditions, collaborating with physicians, nurse practitioners, and other healthcare professionals to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
Key Responsibilities:- Triage and Patient Assessment:
- Initial patient assessments, including triaging based on the severity of their condition.
- Patient history evaluation, physical assessments, and identification of urgent health issues to prioritize care.
- Vital sign collection (blood pressure, temperature, pulse, respiration) and other relevant data to determine immediate care needs.
- Emergency Care and Treatment:
- Administration of medications, fluids, and treatments as prescribed, including IV fluids, antibiotics, pain management, and other emergency medications.
- Wound care, splinting, suturing, and other interventions as needed for trauma or injury patients.
- Emergency life-saving interventions, including CPR, ACLS, and trauma care.
- Resuscitation efforts, including managing ventilators, intubation, and defibrillation when necessary.
- Collaboration with Medical Team:
- Development and implementation of patient care plans with physicians, nurse practitioners, and other team members.
- Diagnostic testing, such as lab work, imaging, and ECGs, based on patient needs.
- Clear communication with the healthcare team, updating them on changes in patient status and discussing care options.
- Monitoring and Documentation:
- Patient condition monitoring, noting changes in vital signs, mental status, and symptoms.
- Accurate documentation of patient assessments, treatments, and outcomes in the EHR.
- Compliance with legal, regulatory, and hospital standards for patient care and documentation.
- Patient and Family Communication:
- Clear explanations to patients and their families about diagnoses, procedures, and treatment plans.
- Emotional support to patients and families experiencing stress or anxiety due to medical emergencies.
- Patient needs advocacy and coordination of care with other departments.
- Infection Control and Safety:
- Frequent hand washing, use of PPE, and adherence to infection control protocols.
- ER environment safety and sterility for both patients and staff.
- Response to potential biohazardous situations with proper precautions and protocols.
- Crisis Management:
- Critical thinking and rapid decision-making skills for handling patient emergencies.
- Effective management of high-stress situations, staying calm while providing life-saving interventions.
- Prioritization of care based on patient acuity and available resources.
- Patient Discharge and Follow-Up:
- Discharge instructions and explanation of next steps in care, including medication instructions, follow-up appointments, or referrals.
- Patient education on preventive measures and care after discharge, especially in cases of trauma or chronic conditions.
- Teamwork and Mentorship:
- Collaboration with ER staff, including physicians, nurses, support staff, and paramedics.
- Guidance and support in emergency care procedures for new nurses, students, and less experienced staff members.
Salary: $130,000 - $160,000 per year, based on 12 hour shifts and 36 hours per week.
