Summary

Under the guidance of the Chief Medical Officer (CMO), the Medical Director fulfills a multifaceted role at Uhalumni, providing direct patient care, overseeing medical staff, and leading organization-wide initiatives. In each capacity, the Medical Director aims to enhance patient experience, improve community health, reduce costs, and enhance the work life of healthcare providers.

The Medical Director collaborates with the CMO in the overall management and administration of Uhalumni, responsible for supporting the design, implementation, operation, and evaluation of assigned programs and projects. This role requires effective planning, leadership, and organization of teams to achieve specific objectives while considering the implications of decisions on patient care, economics, and interpersonal dynamics.

As the primary healthcare provider, the Medical Director exemplifies high-quality, compassionate patient care, effectively coordinating with the clinical team and adhering to all organizational policies and procedures. They must also identify opportunities for improvement in patient care and organizational management.

In their capacity as supervisor for medical staff, the Medical Director must demonstrate effective management skills, attention to detail, and the ability to foster positive working relationships. Key managerial responsibilities include ensuring compliance with organizational policies, managing provider schedules to maintain patient access, recruiting and retaining quality medical professionals, and advocating for provider well-being.

The Medical Director is recognized as a leader within the organization, responsible for ensuring the quality of care provided by medical staff. They must possess a blend of analytical, programmatic, and communication skills to leverage personal and managerial experience alongside data to refine organizational policies and programs aimed at enhancing patient care, community health, and provider satisfaction.

Qualifications

To succeed in this role, candidates must demonstrate the following:

  • Proven leadership and team-building capabilities.
  • A minimum of three years' experience as a practicing physician is preferred.
  • Ability to work independently and self-direct.
  • Previous management or supervisory experience is preferred.
  • Personnel management skills, including evaluating clinical competency and workflow.
  • Strong communication, supervisory, and organizational skills.
  • Experience in quality improvement initiatives is preferred.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in a culturally sensitive manner.
  • Experience working collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Familiarity with the communities served is preferred.
  • Experience in a Federally Qualified Health Center or with underserved populations is preferred.
  • Proficiency with Electronic Medical Records systems is preferred.
  • Strong computer skills, including word processing and data management.

Certificates, Licenses, Registration

  • Graduation from an accredited medical school and completion of residency in the United States is required. Board Certification is required.
  • Valid medical license and necessary certifications are required.
  • Basic Life Support certification is required.
  • Compliance with health clearance requirements is necessary.
