POSITION SUMMARY
The Director of Privacy plays a crucial role within the Compliance and Ethics division at Advanced Medical Manage. This position is pivotal in steering the organization’s privacy-related initiatives, ensuring that patient confidentiality is maintained at the highest standards. The Director will work closely with the Chief Compliance and Ethics Officer (CCEO) to uphold the integrity of the organization’s privacy framework, aligning with the expectations of stakeholders, including patients, families, and regulatory bodies.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
The following outlines the primary duties associated with this leadership role; it is not exhaustive.
- Keep the CCEO promptly informed of all significant developments related to privacy.
- Collaborate with the CCEO to advance the privacy initiatives of the organization.
- Stay updated on trends and changes in healthcare compliance and ethics through continuous professional development and engagement with industry organizations.
PRIVACY-FOCUSED DUTIES
- Lead the establishment and maintenance of the Privacy Program, ensuring it is well-resourced and effectively structured.
- Advocate for awareness and adherence to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) among all levels of the organization.
- Act as the Corporate Privacy Officer in accordance with HIPAA regulations.
- Monitor and assess the implications of state-level data privacy laws and consumer protection regulations.
- Ensure the Privacy Program aligns with the necessary administrative, technical, and physical safeguards as per regulatory guidance.
- Conduct annual reviews and updates of policies protecting patient health information to reflect legal changes.
- Design and implement annual training sessions on HIPAA and relevant state laws for all employees.
- Foster a cooperative relationship with the Chief Information Officer (CIO) regarding information security and electronic health records.
- Conduct annual security risk assessments in partnership with the CIO and report findings to the Compliance Committee.
- Work with the CIO to develop business continuity and disaster recovery plans.
- Collaborate with external legal counsel to ensure proper privacy consent and authorization forms are maintained.
- Identify privacy vulnerabilities and develop strategies for risk mitigation and preventive measures.
- Oversee the tracking and enforcement of Business Associate Agreements with vendors.
- Conduct table-top exercises with the CIO to prepare for potential cybersecurity incidents.
- Manage routine breach assessments and report findings to the CCEO.
- Ensure timely compliance with breach notification requirements in collaboration with legal counsel.
- Engage with government representatives during privacy-related inquiries or audits, with legal support as necessary.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Five to ten years of relevant experience in healthcare, with a minimum of three years in a leadership capacity, preferably in privacy compliance within a large healthcare organization.
- A bachelor’s degree is required; a Juris Doctor degree is preferred.
- Possession of a recognized healthcare privacy certification, such as Certified in Healthcare Privacy Compliance (CHPC), is highly desirable.
- Proven ability to collaborate effectively with both internal and external stakeholders.
