The Head of Bridge Software Engineering plays a pivotal role at Michael Baker International, serving as a prominent figure in the industry and a technical authority.

Utilizing extensive technical knowledge and strong communication skills, the Head will work in close partnership with the National Technical Director of Bridge Technologies to advance strategic goals concerning innovations in BIM, digital twins, software interfaces, software creation and upkeep, automation, machine learning, artificial intelligence, and the integration of new technologies to enhance operational effectiveness in project execution.

Moreover, this position will act as a senior technical consultant and guide for those involved in the development of bridge software and tools.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Strategic Direction:


Contribute to the formulation and execution of a strategic plan for bridge technology and software initiatives, ensuring alignment with the overarching objectives of Michael Baker International's National Bridge Practice.

Assist in the communication, education, and outreach of identified initiatives within the Bridge Practice.

Management and Execution of Technology & Software Development:

Facilitate the advancement and integration of cutting-edge technologies for bridge design, load rating, health monitoring, and asset management.

Oversee the creation of engineering automation tools and model-based workflows to streamline bridge engineering tasks and project delivery.

Ensure adherence to best practices in software development and technology application.

Supervise ongoing and future software and technology projects, guaranteeing timely delivery, budget compliance, and quality assurance.

Define project scopes, objectives, and deliverables in collaboration with relevant stakeholders.
Lead project teams, offering guidance and support to ensure successful outcomes.

Remain actively involved in software development tasks, including modernizations, routine maintenance, enhancements, and troubleshooting of existing or future client-specific analysis and design software.


Client Relations and Business Growth:


Engage with clients to comprehend their requirements and propose solutions that align with Michael Baker International's capabilities and objectives, collaborating with the National Technical Director of Bridge Technologies as necessary.

Identify and pursue new business prospects related to bridge software.
Prepare and present proposals and presentations to potential clients and stakeholders.

Leadership and Team Development:
Guide, mentor, and cultivate a high-performing team of software engineers and project managers.
Encourage a culture of innovation, teamwork, and continuous improvement within the team.

Collaboration and Communication:


Work alongside cross-functional teams, including Bridge Engineering, Bridge Software, and relevant Information Technology departments to deliver advanced bridge technology solutions.

Maintain open and effective communication with all stakeholders, ensuring transparency and alignment on project goals and progress.

Financial and Resource Oversight:
Manage budgets for technology and software projects, ensuring efficient resource allocation and cost-effective solutions.
Identify funding opportunities and oversee the financial aspects of project development.

Performance Evaluation and Reporting:
Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) to assess project progress and team performance.
Prepare regular reports for senior management, highlighting achievements, challenges, and recommendations.

PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS
A Master's degree in Civil/Structural Engineering or Information Technology Management.
Over 20 years of experience in software development and technical management related to bridge engineering, load rating, asset management, and technology leadership.A strong passion for advancing software development and technology in bridge engineering.
Proven ability to network and influence peers effectively.
An entrepreneurial mindset, self-motivated, and a commitment to being a leader in the company and a champion of technological innovation.
Capability to devise creative and effective technology-driven solutions for complex challenges.
Excellent communication and relationship-building skills, both internally and externally.

COMPENSATION
The estimated compensation range for this position is $132,500 to $185,000. This range is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting. Actual compensation will depend on factors such as education, qualifications, experience, skillset, and work location.
