Overview

The Wireless Connectivity Silicon team is in search of skilled firmware test engineers to ensure the excellence of cutting-edge wireless silicon utilized in Apple's product lineup.

Role Responsibilities

- Partner with firmware, radio, MAC, and systems engineering teams to formulate a comprehensive firmware testing strategy aimed at validating the stability, reliability, functionality, and performance of Apple's wireless silicon and associated products.
- Create and maintain testing infrastructure and continuous integration processes for both pre-silicon development and post-silicon validation, including regression testing on a nightly, weekly, and release basis.
- Engage in the development of test plans, establish manual and automated testing setups/scripts, generate test reports, and analyze test logs to identify and address failures.
- Construct testing setups for both pre-silicon and post-silicon reference boards, as well as for production-specific testing.
- Design and implement firmware test cases and methodologies.
- Innovate solutions to enhance automation and streamline testing processes.
- Assist in debugging and issue reproduction, collaborating with system QA for bug reproduction, log/statistics collection, and executing debug tests with debug firmware builds.
- Develop dashboards for test results and participate in bug triage discussions.

Essential Qualifications
  • Minimum of 5 years of demonstrated experience as a firmware test engineer in the silicon domain.
  • Proficient in developing and executing automated testing and continuous integration frameworks.
  • Experience in white box testing of firmware/software, including the design, implementation, documentation, and upkeep of test plans.
  • Strong scripting and debugging skills in languages such as Python, Perl, TCL, C++, or similar.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities: capable of investigating and resolving test failures, errors, and build issues effectively.
  • Ability to thrive in a collaborative environment and work effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
  • Familiarity with embedded software principles and low-level hardware interfaces.
  • Knowledge of wireless protocols, systems/MAC/PHY, and testing for WiFi/BT functionality, performance, or stability.
Education & Experience

A minimum of a Bachelor's degree with 10 years of relevant experience.

Compensation & Benefits
  • At Apple, base pay is one component of our total compensation package, determined within a specified range. This structure allows for growth as you develop within your role. The base pay range for this position is between $175,800 and $312,200, influenced by your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.

    Employees also have the opportunity to become shareholders through participation in Apple's employee stock programs, which include discretionary restricted stock unit awards and the option to purchase Apple stock at a discount through the Employee Stock Purchase Plan. Benefits include comprehensive medical and dental coverage, retirement plans, discounts on products and services, and reimbursement for certain educational expenses related to career advancement at Apple. Additionally, this role may be eligible for discretionary bonuses or commission payments.
