Job Title: Early Childhood Education Teacher

Job Summary:

The Salvation Army USA Western Territory is seeking a qualified Early Childhood Education Teacher to join our team at the Kroc Keiki Learning Center. As an ECE Teacher, you will be responsible for providing a well-balanced, developmentally appropriate curriculum that enhances all aspects of a child's development, including health, safety, education, spiritual, and psychological wellness.

Responsibilities:

  • Plan and implement activities to meet the physical, emotional, intellectual, spiritual, and social needs of children in the program.
  • Ensure equipment and the facility are clean, well-maintained, and safe at all times.
  • Prepare the classroom at the beginning of the day and perform cleanup and setup for the next day's activities.
  • Provide weekly and monthly schedules of activities and establish routines and provide positive guidance.
  • Develop and maintain current, accurate, and confidential files.
  • Communicate with parents, discuss children's development with parents, and keep parents informed of program expectations, program activities, and their child's progress.
  • Plan together with and provide information, training, and guidance to Assistant Teachers, Aides, trainees, and volunteers.
  • Provide appropriate feedback to staff on work performance and other job-related activities as needed.
  • Complete formal written performance evaluations, discuss outcomes, and set annual goals with staff.
  • Promote team spirit and cooperation between staff, volunteers, and parents.
  • Teach proper eating habits and personal hygiene.
  • Serve meals and snacks in accordance with nutritional guidelines.
  • Know emergency procedures.
  • Attend scheduled KKLC Family Events outside of regular work hours.
  • Follow and ensure adherence to The Salvation Army Policies and Procedures.
  • Maintain the Code of Ethics policy, which has been established for the Kroc Center Hawaii.
  • Attend staff meetings and other administrative meetings.
  • Maintain regular and punctual work attendance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Associates Degree or CDA Credential from an Accredited College or University in Early Childhood Education, or Bachelor's Degree and 12 or more credits in ECE or Child Development coursework.
  • At least one-year daycare or preschool teaching experience.
  • An equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be accepted.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field of study.

Working Conditions:

The ECE Teacher may be lifting and carrying children and equipment and may spend time sitting on the floor or child-sized furniture. The ECE Teacher will be expected to clean and maintain equipment and facility and may move throughout the community with children. The ECE Teacher may come in contact with children who are ill and/or contagious and must take precautions to ensure the health and safety of all children, parents, staff, and themselves.

Communication Demands:

The position requires talking to co-workers, clients, vendors; requires written communication to and from co-workers, clients, vendor; talking on the telephone; requires responding to written or verbal requests of co-workers, clients, and vendors; requires training/giving verbal and written instructions; requires receiving verbal and written instructions; requires writing/composing written language; requires reading; requires visiting/working at other worksites; requires communication via the latest technologies.

Equipment Needs:

Activity mats & tables, classroom chairs, blocks, carts, outdoor play equipment/furniture, toys, arts & crafts accessories, books, classroom lockers/storage units, diaper changing tables, easels, etc.

Certificates & Licenses:

  • Registry Card from Hawaii Careers with Young Children
  • TB Test Clearance Card (current within 12 months before beginning child care)
  • Valid Driver's License

Clearances:

The candidate chosen for this position will be required to pass a criminal history information check and Child Abuse Index and fingerprint clearance with the FBI and Department of Justice. Conviction of a crime will not automatically preclude employment. The circumstances involved in the conviction(s) will be considered.
