About the Position

As a Patient Care Technician in the Medical Surgical department at Boston Medical Center, you will be a key member of the healthcare team. Under the direction and supervision of the registered nurse (RN) and in accordance with hospital policies, procedures, protocols, and standards of practice, you will provide direct clinical and support services to patients and their families.

You will work cooperatively with all healthcare team members to provide a variety of support services to meet patient, family, and staff needs. This includes performing a variety of appropriately delegated patient care interventions, such as obtaining vital signs, bathing and feeding, dressing wounds, assisting with hygiene, cleaning rooms and linens, and emotional support.

Additionally, you will contribute to the efficient operation of the Medical Surgical department, ensuring quality patient/family clinical outcomes.

Responsibilities
  • Perform a variety of appropriately delegated patient care interventions for patients in the Medical Surgical department and their families.
  • Provide emotional support to patients and their families.
  • Contribute to the efficient operation of the Medical Surgical department, ensuring quality patient/family clinical outcomes.
Requirements
  • A high school diploma or GED certificate
  • Certification in basic life support (BLS), including CPR certification (must be current or obtained within 30 days of employment)
  • Ability to pass clinical competency testing
  • Physical ability to meet job responsibilities
  • Basic math and computer proficiency
Preferred Qualifications
  • One year of previous experience as a Patient Care Technician in an acute hospital setting
  • Currently enrolled in a nursing program and have completed two cycles of clinical rotation
  • Completed an approved Patient Care Technician training
  • Completed an approved certified medical assistant training
  • One year of previous experience as an EMT or field medic (considered for adult ED positions only)
