Key Responsibilities- Emergency Response: Respond to emergency calls and triage patients in a timely and efficient manner.
- Patient Admission: Admit patients into the hospital for surgical and out-patient procedures, ensuring compliance with hospital policies and procedures.
- Medication Management: Demonstrate knowledge of common medications and their side effects, including injectable and oral medications.
- Treatment Protocols: Prepare treatment protocols for hospitalized patients under the direction of a veterinarian.
- IV Catheter Placement: Sterilely place and maintain IV catheters as needed.
- Treatment Administration: Calculate and administer treatments, including medications, fluids, and blood products, as directed by a veterinarian.
- Equipment Operation: Operate medical, surgical, and monitoring equipment, including endotracheal intubation and extubation.
- Anesthetic Crisis Management: Recognize and remedy anesthetic crises in a timely and effective manner.
- Lab Testing: Set up and execute specialized lab tests and procedures, including ACTH Stims, Bile Acid Stims, and Glucose Curves.
- Staff Training: Assist in training less experienced staff members and provide guidance and support as needed.
- Client Communication: Update clients on patient status and provide clear and concise information on treatment plans and medications.
- Task Management: Complete daily task lists to ensure a clean and efficient hospital environment.
- Follow-up Calls: Assist with follow-up calls for recently seen patients and provide support to clients as needed.
- Specialist Support: Assist specialists during scheduled exams and provide support as needed.
- Patient Monitoring: Monitor patient vitals and provide updates to veterinarians as needed.
- Anesthesia Protocols: Prepare anesthesia protocols for each patient under the direction of a veterinarian.
- Medication Administration: Administer injectable medications, including subcutaneous, intra-muscular, and intravenous injections.
- Fluid Therapy: Calculate and administer fluid therapy as needed, using fluid pumps and other equipment.
- Patient Recovery: Recover patients from anesthesia and assess patient pain, working with veterinarians to provide appropriate pain management.
- Patient Discharge: Discharge patients under the direction of a veterinarian, ensuring patients are well-groomed and in a medically appropriate state, and providing clear and educational information to clients on medications and home care instructions.
- Professional Conduct: Conduct oneself in a professional manner at all times, maintaining positive relationships with colleagues and clients.
