Job Overview:

The Laboratory Support Technician will engage in essential laboratory operations to assist the professional laboratory team and ensure efficient workflow.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage the sorting and receiving of specimens within the department.
  • Conduct routine maintenance on laboratory instruments.
  • Perform essential laboratory tasks including centrifugation, label printing, and data recording.
  • Prepare reagents and media as required.
  • Organize specimens for testing, including building worklists and aliquoting samples.
  • Execute quality assurance and quality control duties as assigned.
  • Address pending lists and locate missing samples.
  • Decontaminate work areas and conduct weekly radioactive wipe tests.
  • Maintain departmental records and files.
  • Change gas cylinders as necessary.
  • Adhere to all personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements and safety regulations.
  • Utilize the laboratory computer system and operate PCs effectively.
  • Dispose of biohazardous materials responsibly.
  • Complete training and competency assessments as required.

This role encompasses a variety of tasks and responsibilities, providing a general overview of the work performed.

Education Requirements:

A high school diploma or equivalent is required. Training as a medical assistant is advantageous, with a preference for candidates who have completed math and science courses.

Experience:

No prior experience is necessary.

Special Skills:

Candidates must demonstrate the ability to prioritize tasks effectively and manage multiple responsibilities to optimize workstation efficiency. Retention of learned information is essential, along with the capacity to interact courteously with colleagues and customers.
