Job Summary

Clayton County Public Schools is seeking a highly motivated and dedicated Support Specialist to join our team. As a Support Specialist, you will provide academic support to exceptional education students at the elementary level, including those with emotional and behavioral disorders.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide support to selected students in resource, self-contained, and regular classroom settings.
  • Conduct small group or individual classroom activities with students based on lesson plans developed by the teacher.
  • Assist with preparation of materials for instruction, including copying, duplicating, and constructing bulletin boards.
  • Perform special duties as required for meeting the unique needs of specific student populations, such as lifting physically disabled students, toileting/personal hygiene assistance, and using physical restraints or other specialized behavior management techniques.
  • Assist with routine record keeping, housekeeping, and school-wide supervision, including loading/unloading buses.
Requirements
  • Hold an associate's degree or higher in any subject from a GaPSC-accepted accredited institution.
  • Have completed two (2) years of college coursework (sixty [60] semester hours or [90] quarter hours) above the remedial level with a grade of 'C' or better at a GaPSC-accepted accredited institution.
  • Have passed the GACE Paraprofessional Assessment and hold a minimum of a high school diploma or GED equivalent.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Paraprofessional experience serving school-age children.
  • Bilingual or bicultural experience required for certain positions.
Working Conditions

The Support Specialist will work in a fast-paced educational environment, interacting with students, teachers, and staff. The position requires the ability to lift up to 50 pounds, sit, stand, and stoop intermittently. The Support Specialist must be able to work in a team environment and maintain confidentiality.
