Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Recreation Program Supervisor to join our team at the Mountain View Correctional Facility in Charleston. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and administering recreational and group work programs that promote the development, re-education, and rehabilitation of residents.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan, organize, and implement a comprehensive recreational program that meets the needs of residents, including athletic activities and group work programs.
  • Supervise a team of professional and/or security personnel to ensure the effective delivery of recreational programs.
  • Consult with other staff members to determine resident interests and assign residents to recreation classes or activities.
  • Interview new residents to determine their interests and plan a recreational program for them.
  • Record resident progress and maintain accurate records of program activity.
  • Represent the recreation unit on various committees and participate in the development of new recreation programs.
  • Requisition and maintain recreational equipment and supplies.
  • Coach, instruct, and oversee games, athletic events, or other recreational activities.
  • Keep and review program activity records and submit reports, and evaluate and improve existing programs.
Requirements
  • Experience or education that provides knowledge and/or work experience in planning, organizing, and supervising athletic or other recreational activities.
  • Ability to understand the psychology of delinquent persons and develop programs that meet their needs.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with residents, staff, and other stakeholders.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records and write reports.
