Program OverviewOur Student Nurse Externship program is designed to provide nursing students with a comprehensive and immersive learning experience. You will work alongside a preceptor to gain a broader exposure to multiple clinical departments, develop your nursing skills, and enhance your knowledge of hospital practice and policy.
Responsibilities and Requirements- Assist in performing a variety of nursing care services for patients under the supervision of a licensed nurse.
- Contribute to overall quality and safe care for patients by answering patients' calls for help, taking their vital signs, and monitoring their behavior and physical condition.
- Assist patients with their activities of daily living, including bathing, ambulating, feeding, skin care, and personal and oral hygiene.
- Contribute to quality care and safety by assisting and performing procedures such as dressing changes, enemas, ostomy care, toileting, turning, cough and deep breathing, catheter care, and collection of biological specimens.
- Establish a compassionate environment, respond to patients' needs in a timely manner, and provide emotional and psychological support.
- Relay information via charting and communicate with team members to ensure seamless care.
- Participate in department initiatives, unit meetings, committees, and special projects to contribute to exceptional healthcare.
To be eligible for this program, you must be a current student enrolled in an accredited school of nursing and have completed your first clinical rotation.
