Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Food Service Professional to join our team at PAM Health. As a Cook - PRN, you will be responsible for preparing and cooking food for patients, staff, and visitors in a fast-paced healthcare environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare and cook food and desserts for patients, cafeteria, and special catering.
  • Follow established standardized recipes for quality results and ensure that serving time deadlines are met consistently.
  • Menu planning and review, communicating with other cooks regarding supplies and preparation of ingredients.
  • Assist with checking food deliveries and processing invoices.
  • Inspect and assure that all items are accounted for, sign invoices, and submit to Dietary Office.
  • Attend meetings with Director and Dietitian to review progress and changes in food production.
  • Coordinate activities of staff in preparing and cooking foods for patients, staff, and visitors.
  • Make recommendations for menu planning.
  • Inspect patient tray line and cafeteria line for appearance of menu items.
  • Assist in monitoring infection control and sanitation standards.
Leadership and Patient Care

In the absence of the Food Service Team Leader/Cook, you will provide leadership in the department, consulting with the Clinical Dietitian as needed.

Assist in serving food on patients' tray line and assure that food plates are garnished appropriately.

Sanitation and Food Safety
  • Check and secure all foods stored in freezer and refrigerator.
  • Conduct daily inspection and assure that food is properly wrapped, labeled, and dated, and assist in planning for use of leftover foods.
  • Check food inventory level in store room.
  • Submit food purchase requisitions to office and encourage constant rotation of stock inventory.
  • Conduct food temperature checks each meal, submit daily report to office for review and filing.
  • Maintain sanitation in production area.
  • Comply with sanitation policies regarding work area and the cleaning of cooking equipment.
Qualifications
  • High School education or GED preferred with the ability to read and write English, in order to follow recipes and plan menus.
  • Five years commercial food preparation experience desired.
  • Knowledge, skills, and abilities:
    • Be courteous and cooperative with customers.
    • Be able to take criticism.
    • Be willing to accept responsibility and use good judgment when guidance is not readily available.
    • Take pride in producing high-quality products.
    • Be a team player.
