Position Summary:
The selected candidate will be responsible for developing a comprehensive Disabilities Program in alignment with the Office of Head Start Performance Standards concerning Disabilities and Education, prioritizing the needs of children with special requirements and their families. Responsibilities include formulating policies and procedures for the recruitment, enrollment, and maintenance of special services for children and families. The coordinator will conduct screenings and make referrals for evaluations, creating Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and Individual Family Service Plans (IFSPs) to ensure timely and appropriate services for children identified with disabilities. Utilizing Head Start diagnostic criteria, the coordinator will assess children's eligibility for special education and related services under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). Collaboration with program managers and teaching staff is essential to meet the objectives of special services. The role also involves liaising with school districts to facilitate seamless transitions of records and services for ongoing IEPs. The coordinator will be tasked with drafting program plans, compiling monthly reports, and ensuring timely submissions. This position requires a thorough understanding of complex laws and regulations, as well as engagement with external organizations that provide services to children with disabilities.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Special Education with a focus on Early Childhood/Child Development or a Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education with significant coursework in Special Education. Knowledge of Special Education law and prevention/intervention services is essential.
- A minimum of three to five years of experience in early childhood settings, specifically working with special needs populations, including children and families.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills are required.
- Proficiency in Keres is an advantage.
- A valid driver's license is necessary.
- Successful completion of a criminal background check and a physical examination within 30 days of hire is mandatory.
