Position Summary:
The Water Treatment Plant Operator is responsible for the effective operation, routine maintenance, and oversight of specialized equipment within a treatment facility. This includes managing pumps, motors, chemical preparation, and various water treatment processes, ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain operational records and submit routine and special reports as required.
- Inspect mechanical equipment for optimal performance, conducting necessary lubrication, adjustments, and minor repairs.
- Conduct field and laboratory tests to monitor and control facility operations, making adjustments as needed.
- Operate and assist in the maintenance of water systems and treatment plants.
- Ensure the production of safe potable water in compliance with all applicable regulations.
- Perform daily operational procedures, laboratory analyses, and routine calibrations to optimize treatment processes.
- Monitor operational equipment using manual and electronic systems, including SCADA.
- Carry out routine preventative and corrective maintenance tasks.
- Assist in the development and effectiveness of the preventative maintenance system.
- Accurately report all work activities and maintain shift logs and administrative documents.
- Order and manage inventory of chemicals and supplies as necessary.
- Utilize computer systems and software relevant to the position.
- Adhere to established safety protocols and standard operating procedures.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED is required.
- Technical knowledge and hands-on experience in advanced water treatment operations.
- Experience in performing maintenance and operational tasks independently.
- Familiarity with Computer Maintenance Management Systems.
- Strong laboratory and sampling skills.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- In-depth understanding of mechanical, hydraulic, and chemical principles.
- Knowledge of health and safety regulations and water quality monitoring practices.
- Ability to complete documentation and follow complex instructions.
- Proficient in troubleshooting and repairing water treatment equipment.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team or independently.
- Flexibility to work various shifts, including evenings and weekends.
Certifications:
- Pre-employment drug screening and physical abilities tests are required.
- New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection T-2 License or ability to obtain within one year.
- Certification in CPR and first aid is required.
Physical Requirements:
The role requires the ability to climb, manipulate tools, lift up to 50 pounds, and perform various physical tasks as needed.
