Job Summary:

The Educational Associate will provide support to teachers in the implementation of classroom programs, including self-help, behavior management, and instruction programs. This role will work under the general supervision of the principal and immediate direction of certified teachers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the preparation of instructional materials and classroom displays.
  • Maintain a neat and orderly classroom environment.
  • Help with inventory, care, and maintenance of equipment.
  • Assist teachers with administrative tasks, including record-keeping and report preparation.
  • Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers.
  • Support students with physical disabilities, including transferring to and from wheelchairs, lifting, or positioning as necessary.
  • Help manage student behavior, including intervening in crisis situations and restraining disruptive or dangerous behavior as needed.
  • Develop and implement instructional exercises assigned by teachers.
  • Supervise students throughout the school day, including lunchroom, bus, and playground duty.
  • Keep teachers informed of special needs or problems of individual students.
  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Participate in staff development training programs, faculty meetings, and special events as assigned.
  • Responsible for maintaining district records and adhering to all policies set forth by the district for records maintenance and learning the records retention schedule for department records.

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Valid Texas Educational Aide Certificate.
  • Completion of at least two years of study at an institution of higher education (48 semester hours of college coursework); or have obtained, at minimum, an associate's degree; or met a rigorous standard of quality and can demonstrate, through a formal state or local academic assessment, knowledge or, and the ability to assist in instructing reading, writing, and math or knowledge or, and the ability to assist in instructing reading and writing readiness, and math readiness, as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Some experience working with children.

Working Conditions:

The Educational Associate will work in a school setting, interacting with students, teachers, and staff. The role will require standing, walking, and lifting, as well as the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

Equipment Used:

Wheelchair lift, ramp, personal computer, copier, and audiovisual equipment as necessary.
