Job Title: Substance Use Counselor

Job Summary:

This position is responsible for providing assessment and identification of client needs, coordination of treatment plans, and facilitation of outpatient groups and individual counseling. The Substance Use Counselor serves as a guide, confidant, advisor, and advocate for clients, assisting them in identifying problems that need to be addressed.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for client treatment process and consultation throughout treatment.
  • Meet with clients' family and/or significant others as appropriate, making referrals to community resources as needed.
  • Coordinate individualized Treatment Plans, including identification of problems, goals, objectives, and treatment methods with clients.
  • Document regular progress notes to reflect progress in achieving treatment objectives.
  • Provide screening and evaluation of substance use and recommendations for treatment.
  • Teach patients coping mechanisms and best ways to prevent relapse.
  • Provide reports to update court on treatment progress.
  • Help clients set up a support network required in overcoming addiction.
  • Track clients' recovery process to identify the need for treatment plan adjustment.
  • Counsel clients in individual or group sessions, listening to their stories, concerns, or issues and providing feedback, including teaching coping techniques.
  • Work with other professional staff to collaborate on treatment methods and plans for patients and to assess suitability for counseling services or referrals as needed.
  • Agree to and comply with all company policies and procedures as outlined in the employee handbook, including handling patient grievances, proper intake procedures, staff meeting requirements, rules and regulations of the clinical records department, and general code of conduct.
  • Serve as the primary group therapy facilitator.
  • Participate in all required meetings.

Requirements:

  • A Master's degree in a Human Services Field (education, nursing, criminal justice, recreational therapist, social work, psychology, human development) plus:
  • A licensed or provisionally licensed qualified mental health professional (QMHP); or
  • An individual holding the Co-Occurring Disorders Professional or Co-Occurring Disorders Professional/Diplomate credential from the Missouri Credentialing Board; or
  • A non-licensed QMHP who meets the co-occurring counselor competency requirements established by the department; or
  • A QAP who meets the co-occurring counselor competency requirements established by the department.

Credentials:

  • Must be credentialed in one or more of the following:
  • Qualified Addiction Professional (QAP) –
  • An individual who meets the applicable training and credentialing required by the Missouri Credentialing Board for any of the following positions:
  • Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CADC)
  • Certified Reciprocal Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CRADC)
  • Certified Reciprocal Advanced Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CRAADC)
  • Certified Criminal Justice Addictions Professional (CCJP)
  • Registered Alcohol Drug Counselor-Provisional (RADC-P)
  • Registered Alcohol Drug Counselor (RADC)
  • Co-Occurring Disorders Professional (CCDP)

Supervisor Relationship:

Does not supervise. The Outpatient Clinical Director supervises this employee.
