Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Licensed Vocational Nurse III to join our team at the Texas Department of Aging & Disability Services. As a key member of our healthcare team, you will be responsible for providing advanced vocational nursing care to individuals with complex medical, mental health, and/or behavioral health issues.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide advanced vocational nursing care to individuals with complex medical, mental health, and/or behavioral health issues.
  • Collect specimens for laboratory examination and conduct appropriate screening tests.
  • Monitor individuals' weight, diet, mealtimes, and vital signs.
  • Administer medications and treatments as prescribed by healthcare providers.
  • Perform complex and technical nursing procedures, such as tracheostomy care, gastrostomy/jejunostomy care, wound care, and breathing treatments.
  • Lead, monitor, and oversee the work of other Licensed Vocational Nurses as assigned.
  • Provide on-the-job training and instruction to new Licensed Vocational Nurses.
  • Assist Registered Nurses with implementation of protocols, procedures, and programs to improve overall health and safety of staff and individuals.
  • Participate in facility Quality Assurance/Quality Improvement initiatives.
  • Respond to emergency situations and ensure the safety of individuals.
Requirements
  • Knowledge of nursing care standards, nursing procedures, and techniques.
  • Knowledge of emergency procedures and emergency equipment.
  • Knowledge of state and federal laws and regulations related to State hospitals.
  • Ability to organize, coordinate, and evaluate nursing activities and delivery of health services.
  • Ability to interpret policies and procedures, health care regulations, and recognize patterns of medical necessity treatment.
  • Ability to plan, assign, and/or oversee the work of others.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and instruct others.
Working Conditions

This position requires the ability to work in a fast-paced environment and make decisions quickly in emergency situations. The successful candidate must be able to lift, push, and pull equipment and supplies as needed.
