Summary/Objective

The Chief Estimator is responsible for overseeing and executing all estimating functions for large-scale and intricate projects. This role requires a wealth of experience and a deep understanding of various project types and client needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Directs a team of estimators proficient in capital cost estimation, providing leadership and specialized support to resolve complex estimating challenges. Collaborates with project and design managers to establish timelines for estimate preparation and delivery.
  • Assigns staffing roles appropriately, supervising team activities and providing mentorship to enhance performance.
  • Offers training and support to team members in the creation, revision, and production of cost estimates, ensuring high standards of quality and clarity in their work.
  • Conducts material takeoffs for the most challenging projects, ensuring accuracy in mathematical and technical aspects. Prepares detailed breakdowns of estimate components for systems and subsystems.
  • Analyzes documents and contract amendments to assess the scope of work and any changes.
  • Summarizes task and subtask estimates, determining rates and unit costs while applying standard calculations.
  • Assigns costs for materials, equipment, subsystems, subcontractors, and labor to the estimate takeoff. Gathers quotes from vendors and suppliers for materials and services.
  • Collects, assesses, and documents historical cost data, construction methods, and productivity metrics to maintain up-to-date estimating standards and databases.
  • Engages in client review meetings and presentations as necessary.
  • Performs additional responsibilities as required for this role.

This position entails comprehensive supervisory duties over all estimating operations.

Position Type and Hours

Education and Experience

  1. Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
  2. A minimum of 12-15 years of substantial operational experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  1. At least five years in a senior management capacity.
