About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced School Age Site Assistant to join our team at the Downtown location. As a key member of our staff, you will play a vital role in ensuring the success of our youth and families.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise and care for children in a safe and healthy environment, adhering to developmentally appropriate practices.
  • Provide daily care, including feeding and supporting social/emotional needs, to ensure the well-being of our children.
  • Encourage and engage children in all classroom activities, including instructional times, mealtimes, and transitions.
  • Implement positive behavior management techniques to promote a supportive and caring environment.
  • Plan and implement daily age-appropriate classroom activities to ensure all children have the opportunity to learn and grow.
  • Observe and document children's progress and development, communicating effectively with parents and staff.
  • Ensure the facility and equipment are clean, well-maintained, and safe on a daily basis.
  • Complete and maintain required program documentation, including attendance, meal counts, and daily parent communication.
Requirements
  • At least 18 years of age and a high school diploma or equivalent recognized by the Delaware Department of Education.
  • Meet one of the following qualifications:
    • Option 1: Successful completion of three credits from a regionally accredited college or university in recreation, elementary education, school-age care, or school-age administration, and part-time employment for one school year or full-time employment for the majority of one summer season.
    • Option 2: Successful completion of 45 clock hours of quality-assured training related to school-age children and part-time employment for one school year or full-time employment for the majority of one summer season.
    • Option 3: Successful completion of at least 15 clock hours of quality-assured training in school-age care and part-time employment for two school years or full-time employment for the majority of two summer seasons.
    • Option 4: Qualification as an Early Childhood Assistant Teacher.
  • Must be at least four years older than any child in direct care.
  • Complete a physical and tuberculosis screening and provide a physician's documentation within 30 days of hire.
  • Successful completion of a criminal history, child abuse, and adult abuse background check as required by the State of Delaware.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior experience working or volunteering with youth in a group setting.
  • Ability to develop positive, authentic relationships with people from different backgrounds.
  • Flexible and willing to accommodate the needs of the early childhood community and staff team.
  • Ability to develop and present educational programs and/or workshops.
  • Knowledge of early childhood education programs and techniques.
