Job Summary:

As a Rigging Specialist at West Marine, you will be responsible for performing splicing, swaging, and other duties as assigned to ensure top-quality products. This role requires obtaining certification from cordage vendors for splicing different types of cordage.

We are a leading retailer of boating equipment and supplies, serving a community of boaters who value quality and expertise. As a Rigging Specialist, you will play a critical role in delivering exceptional customer experiences and exceeding their expectations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform splicing and swaging for customer orders with precision and attention to detail.
  • Assist in the installation of rigging products, ensuring proper use and maintenance of equipment.
  • Understand and communicate the features and benefits of various rigging products to customers.
  • Drive sales through engagement with customers, suggestive selling, and sharing product knowledge.
  • Produce quotes, orders, and payment for rigging products and services with accuracy and efficiency.
  • Educate store staff on the capabilities and services of the rigging shop.
  • Ensure a safe and clean work environment, adhering to all safety rules and standards.
  • Maintain the stability and reputation of the shop by complying with all legal requirements.
  • Work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays, as needed.

Required Skills and Abilities:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to function well in a fast-paced and sometimes stressful environment.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • General sailing and boat knowledge with the ability to read measurements, both imperial and metric.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift up to 75 pounds.
  • Manual dexterity to evaluate, install, and modify equipment.
