DeKalb County Grounds Maintenance Specialist

This is a challenging and rewarding role that requires the ability to operate a variety of heavy equipment and vehicles to maintain and improve the grounds and infrastructure of DeKalb County.
Key Responsibilities- Operate heavy equipment such as dump trucks, tractors, and asphalt rollers to transport and distribute materials and perform maintenance tasks.
- Drive vehicles over public roads, work sites, and other County property to transport personnel and equipment.
- Perform manual labor in support of construction, maintenance, and upkeep projects, including lifting, moving, and loading materials and equipment.
- Assist with driving special purpose trucks with mounted tanks to transport and distribute water, insecticide, oil, or other liquids for use in maintenance, upkeep, and construction projects.
- Inspect and prepare equipment for safe and proper operation prior to beginning work for the day.
- Follow established safety procedures and utilize safety equipment and wear protective gear.
- Monitor work environment to ensure safety of employees and other individuals.
- Communicate with supervisor, employees, other departments, the public, and other individuals as needed to coordinate work activities, review status of work, exchange information, or resolve problems.
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Previous experience as a crew worker, refuse collector, or driving and operating heavy trucks preferred.
- Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia Commercial Driver's License.
