Job Title: Human Systems Integration Engineer II

Austal is seeking a highly skilled Human Systems Integration Engineer II to join our team. As a key member of our engineering team, you will be responsible for ensuring that human factors engineering and human systems integration requirements are met for various U.S. Navy and Coast Guard ships.

Responsibilities:
  • Provide engineering/technical support for concept studies, feasibility studies, preliminary design activities, contract design activities, detail design and construction activities, independent design reviews, in-service ship design and engineering activities, shipboard installation support, and special studies related to ships/boats/craft, ship systems, and/or shipboard equipment.
  • Provide naval architecture, marine engineering, electrical engineering, and in-depth engineering support for the Hull, Mechanical & Electrical (HM&E); Command, Control, Communications, Computers & Intelligence (C4I); and mission equipment and systems installed aboard ships, boats, craft, and targets, including naval warships, Coast Guard Cutters, Combat Logistics Force (CLF), and Special Mission Ships.
  • Develop and maintain human factors engineering processes and products in a format consistent with US Military Data Item Descriptions (e.g., Human Engineering Program Plan, Human Engineering Design Approach Document - Operator, Human Engineering Design Approach Document - Maintainer, Human Engineering Test Plan, Human Engineering Test Report, etc.).
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure that human systems integration requirements are met throughout the design and development process.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in a Human Engineering field (e.g., Human Systems Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Engineering Psychology).
  • 3+ years of relevant engineer experience in the human engineering field.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills required.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of scheduling, possess an ability to monitor progress to schedule and adhere to strict deadlines required.
  • Knowledge in Human System Integration (HSI).
  • Experience in program documentation of the HFE processes and products in a format consistent with US Military Data Item Descriptions.
  • Maintenance, piloting, or military experience.
  • Experience in Human Modeling.
  • Experience with the user interface software prototyping tools.
  • Experience with Usability software (Morae, Camtasia, etc.).
  • Knowledge in Human Perception and Cognition.
  • Experience in conducting tasks analyses.
  • Experience in Agile Development.
