About the Role

We are seeking a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to join our team in the Acute-Renal, Pulmonary department. As an LPN at Covenant Health, you will have the opportunity to work with a diverse patient population and provide high-quality care under the supervision of a registered nurse.

Job Summary:

The successful candidate will be responsible for performing various patient care activities and supportive services, including vital sign measurements, documentation, and implementation of care plans. You will also be expected to maintain a clean and orderly patient and work environment, and assist patients with nutrition and hydration needs.

Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrate competence in performing critical skills, including delivery of age-specific care according to the needs of the population served.
  • Take and record temperature, pulse, respiration rates, blood pressure, weight, height, and intake-output measurements.
  • Employ established infection control policies, including standard precautions, transmission-based isolation precautions, OSHA standards, safety measures, and proper body mechanics.
  • Complete designated patient care activities and provide for patient comfort and privacy.
  • Identify and assist patients that need assistance with nutrition and/or hydration.
  • Empty drains, canisters, urine bags, bedpans, and emesis basins, and record intake and output.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly patient and work environment.
  • Revises and updates the plan of care as problems change or new problems are identified in collaboration with RN.
  • Assist RN in obtaining a thorough nursing history on assigned patients.
  • Demonstrate effective therapeutic communication skills.
  • Document/maintain patient record as appropriate.
  • Perform basic dressing changes and demonstrate knowledge of sterile technique fundamentals.
  • Evaluate nursing care actions and patient responses, and document each shift.
  • Respond appropriately to changes and complications in patient conditions, reporting significant changes to RN.
  • Document treatments and diagnostic tests with results and response, using clear, concise, accurate, and legible language.
  • Observe assigned post-treatment/operative patients immediately upon return to floor and initiate appropriate nursing actions.
  • Obtain RN signature for review and co-signature all entries.
  • Complete assigned tasks with minimal supervision, seeking guidance when uncertain about procedure performance.
  • Communicate suggestions and complaints through appropriate channels, displaying cooperation, flexibility, and positive behavior to patients and staff members.
  • Demonstrate ability to effectively perform under stress.
  • Follow policies, procedures, and safety standards, completing required education assignments annually, and participating in quality improvement initiatives as requested.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
